Prayer
“Prayer unites us; it makes us brothers and sisters. It opens our hearts and reminds us of a beautiful truth which we sometimes forget. In prayer, we all learn to say “Father”, “Dad”. And when we say “Father”, “Dad”, we learn to see one another as brothers and sisters. In prayer, there are no rich or poor, there are sons and daughters, sisters and brothers. In prayer, there is no first or second class, there is brotherhood.”
Pope Francis 2015
When we pray, we pray to the same Father. Through his death and resurrection, Jesus opened the doors of heaven to mankind and enabled us to call God “our Father” because we are now made sons and daughters of God. When we pray, we join the whole of the Church. May we live as a family, as brothers and sisters striving to return to our true home with God our Father in heaven.
At St Mary’s children learn a range of traditional prayers to use in their daily lives and at particular times during the liturgical year. In the Early Years and Key Stage 1 there is a focus on the Lord’s Prayer, Hail Mary and Glory Be. As they grow through the school other traditional prayers are introduced to deepen their spiritual relationship with God.
