The Guardian Angels

Angel of God, my guardian dear,

To whom God's love commits me here,

Ever this day (or night), be at my side,

To light and guard, Rule and guide.

Amen

Black History Month

On Tuesday 7th October, Key Stage Two will be visited by Big Foot Arts Education. Through their workshops, pupils will have the opportunity to further acknowledge and celebrate Black History. This year’s focus will be ‘Windrush, Now and Then’. Key Stage 1 will experience similar learning opportunities in their classes.

At part of our curriculum at St Mary’s, Black History is embedded into all subjects. This allows pupils to learn about a broad range of accomplishments, experiences and perspectives, through a range of figures across a school year. We aim for children to see their own lives and experiences reflected in the content of the curriculum, but also to view lives and stories that are different from their own. This will allow them to demonstrate a strong sense of empathy.

World Day of Migrants and Refugees

"The Cross of Christ reveals God’s overwhelming and unconditional love for every single human being. The Cross calls us to love our land and its communities and to serve its well-being. But, equally, we are called to love members of other nations too. The Cross and the Gospel of Christ must never be co-opted to support the messages that breed hostility towards others. Its message never legitimises rejection, hatred or superiority towards people of other cultures.

This ethic is core to a biblical vision. In the Old Testament, God commands the people of Israel, “When an alien resides with you in your land, you shall not oppress the alien. The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the native-born among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.” (Leviticus 19:33-34). Jesus intensifies this call when proclaiming that love for the least is love for himself, saying, “I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” (Matthew 25:35)

As Christians, we wish all policy to be grounded in solid and compassionate values. So, we pray for a generous and just spirit, which does not demonise the other simply for being other. We pray that we can have mercy on those in need who legitimately come seeking our aid.

We pray for a true Christian revival where people of all creeds and none, of all ethnicities and ways of life, can feel secure and appreciated for the gifts they bring."

Mini Vinnies 2025-2026

Our new Mini Vinnies were commissioned in a special assembly this week led by Katy from the St Vincent de Paul Society.

During the assembly, we heard about the important work the St Vincent de Paul Charity does for the communities they serve and how vital the Mini Vinnies are as their youngest members. We listen to the story of the Good Samaritan and reminded that it is our Christian duty to help others no matter their circumstances. We also thanked the previous Mini Vinnies for their service and support last year.

Our new Mini Vinnies for this academic year are:

Connor
Melanie
Cerys
Ruby
Sophia
Jessica
Jayden
Avyaan

Rosary Club

October is the month of the Rosary! The Mini Vinnies would like to invite everyone to their Rosary Club by the Mary Statue.

Every day we will pray a decade of the Rosary. It will take place every day for the month of October at 12.15. On Fridays, we would like to invite parents to celebrate the final mystery of the week, after school at 3.15. We will be finished by 3.30.

Each week we will look at a different set of mysteries.

Please come and join us as we listen to one of the mysteries and pray a decade of the Rosary together as a school community. If you have Rosary beads bring them along too!

Parent volunteers

Parents play a crucial role in supporting the development of children in the school and one way of doing this is volunteering to read with the children. If you are interested in coming in to school to support us with this, please contact reply@smi.hounslow.sch.uk with 'Parent Volunteer' in the subject line and your name, your child’s name and your availability in the text of the email.

By half term, I aim to have allocated parents to year groups depending on the needs of each year. I will then be in contact after half term to confirm arrangements.

Thank you and we look forward to welcoming you into the school.

Mr. Cobbold
