Weekly Update for 20th June 2025
Corpus Christi
Dear Jesus
You are the Bread of Life.
Thank you for giving yourself to us in Holy Communion.
As we learn and grow each day, help us to be kind, to listen well,
and to always try our best.
Be with those children who have just made their First Holy Communion.
May they feel close to you always.
Fill our hearts with your love
and help us to follow your example in all we do.
Amen.
YEAR 1 – 6 SPORTS DAY 2024
Sports Day for children in Y1 – Y6 will take place on Friday 4th July at Redlees Park from 9.40am. The day lasts until about 2.30pm and all are welcome to attend. You must bring your child in for our normal start time and they will be taken to Redlees by class teachers. Here's a map of the activities.
Children take part in a range of activities as they move around the park from one activity to another. Here's a rota of the events.
Please can you ensure your child has a sun hat, bottle of water and is wearing sun cream. Your child needs to wear a PE kit and a top in their house colour and bring a packed lunch. If you are unsure of your child’s house colour, please ask them or their class teacher, if they are unsure.
You will be able to take your child home at the end of the event from the park (please speak to your child’s teacher before you take them), if you are unable to do this, they will be brought back to school for our normal finish time of 3:15pm.
Please remember that we do not allow photography or videoing at school events.
If you are able to help run an event, please let us know do ASAP by emailing reply@smi.hounslow.sch.uk with ‘Sports Day’ in the subject line.
If it's raining or it's too hot we will review and let you know what the new plan is.
Transition Week 30th June
The week of the 30th June is transition week across the school. During this week the children will spend most of the time in their new classrooms with their new teachers. For September, we will be reorganising classes from Year 2 upwards and Reception as they moved into Y1. This is something we do regularly to ensure we are meeting the needs of all children. The process allows us to create well-balanced classes. We understand that changes can sometimes be unsettling, and we want to reassure you that every decision has been made with the best interests of children in mind.
Time to say goodbye and thank you
As the academic year draws to a close, we prepare to say farewell to half a dozen valued members of staff who will be moving on to new chapters in their lives and careers. Each of them has played an important role in our school community, and while we will miss them dearly, we are immensely grateful for their dedication, care, and contributions during their time with us.
Miss Burdett will be relocating to Kent to take up a new teaching position. She has been a passionate and committed member of our teaching team, bringing enthusiasm and creativity to her classroom, and building strong relationships with pupils and colleagues alike. We wish her every success in her new role and thank her for the positive impact she has had here. Thank you for the music Miss Burdett!
Miss Exley is also leaving us to explore further training opportunities. Her enthusiasm for professional development and her commitment to education have been commendable, and we look forward to seeing how her career continues to develop. Best wishes with your future studies Miss Exley!
Mrs Kenny, who joined us for her training year, has quickly become a much-loved part of our school community. Her warmth, professionalism, and willingness to learn have made a lasting impression, and we are confident that she will go on to flourish wherever her teaching journey takes her next. Good luck and best wishes!
Mr Rushe will be leaving both our school and the teaching profession to pursue an exciting new role in the IT sector. His humour, dedication, and technical know-how have made him a valued member of the team, and we wish him all the very best in his new venture. Don’t get lost to the IT crowd Mr Rushe!
Ms Ryan is also moving on to pastures new, and we thank her for all she has brought to our school during her time here. Her energy and support for our pupils have been greatly appreciated, and we wish her all the best as she embarks on the next stage of her career. Thank you again Ms Ryan.
After many years of dedicated service, Mrs Winchester will be retiring from her role as SENCO at the end of this academic year. Her deep commitment to supporting children with additional needs has touched the lives of so many families and staff. Her wisdom, compassion, and experience will be greatly missed, but we hope she enjoys a restful and fulfilling retirement. Thank you for your dedication and hard work Mrs Winchester. Enjoy your retirement!
Finally, although not leaving just yet, we would also like to share that Mrs Reese will be retiring at Christmas. We’ll have the chance to say more at the end of the autumn term, but we already know she will be greatly missed when the time comes. See you in September Mrs Reese!
To all our departing colleagues—thank you. Your contributions have helped shape the life of our school, and you leave behind a legacy of care, support, and professionalism. You go with our gratitude and very best wishes.
Staff list for 2025-2026
We welcome Miss Collinson and Miss Baida to our St Mary’s community; they will be training with us, Miss Collinson through Teach First and Miss Baida through Farnham SCITT. We look forward to supporting them both as they begin their teaching journeys we know that they will bring great enthusiasm and commitment to their roles. Welcome to the St Mary's family both!
Mrs Statham-Burt will be our SENCO in a part-time role. The staffing allocations are:
Learning Support Assistants working across the school are Mrs Bentley, Ms Bordon, Ms Hill, Mrs Korana and Mrs Myers (pt).
The School Admin team comprises Mrs Gardner – School Business Manager and Ms Green – Admin Assistant. Mr Gray is our Site Manager
The SLT are Mr Marsh HT, Mr Cobbold DH and Mrs Jackson and Mr Lawlor AH. Mrs Lawlor, Mrs Richards and Mr Smyth are Middle Leaders.
You will remember from previous updates that like many schools across London, we are seeing a decline in pupil numbers, with around 60 fewer children enrolled compared to previous years—equivalent to two full classes. While this brings some changes, we remain fully committed to delivering the highest quality education and care for every child at our school. Our dedicated team continues to focus on creating a nurturing, enriching environment where every pupil can thrive.
However, as a result of the smaller school population, we do need to reduce the number of adults working in school. This is being managed through natural staff changes—such as retirements, career moves, and the end of temporary contracts—rather than job losses. To reflect this, we will be undergoing a staffing restructure for the new academic year. Importantly, there will still be two classes in each year group, each led by a class teacher, and learning standards and the children’s wellbeing will remain our top priorities. Sadly we will not have the capacity to run ELSA next year.
To ensure we can continue to support pupils effectively, staff—including teachers and learning support assistants (LSAs)—will work more flexibly across the school. Most classes will not have a LSA throughout the week, LSAs will move between classes to support children as needed. This approach allows us to use our skilled staff in the most efficient way and to respond to children’s needs dynamically.
We understand that change can raise questions, but please be assured that our focus remains on providing stability, continuity, and the best outcomes for all children.
We are confident that the new structure will support strong teaching and learning while making the most of the talented team we have.
