Weekly Update for 15th November 2024
November the Month of the Holy Souls
During the month of November Catholics are urged to pray for all those you are continuing their journey to God. We pray:
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace.
Amen
May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen
St Mary's Remembers
As part of the annual remembrance commemorations, our school community participated in many different ways.
Children in Year 6 volunteered to sell Poppy Appeal products on behalf of The Royal British Legion, before and after school. The year group also studied the poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ by John McCrae and created a memorial to those from Isleworth, who died in World War One.
On Remembrance Sunday, children in Year 2 – 6 represented St Mary’s in the annual Remembrance Sunday parade. Here, they wore sashes with the names of those from the town, who did not return from battle after the First World War.
As part of the Remembrance Day commemorations, children in Years 1 -6 had the opportunity to learn about how and why we remember sacrifice and service in Britain and the Commonwealth, during assembly. These pupils then took part in the national two-minute silence at Isleworth War Memorial. This was alongside pupils from Worple School, veterans and the public. We all then laid crosses on the steps or pinned poppies to the fence of the memorial.
Catholic Schools Inspection Report
We hope you've had chance to read the report from our recent CSI.
The report commends our school for the overall quality of Catholic education provided, rating it as 'Good' across all key areas, including Catholic Life and Mission, Religious Education, and Collective Worship.
Here are some of the key strengths highlighted in the report:
• Positive Role Models: Our staff are recognised as positive role models who are committed to implementing the mission statement and encouraging pupils to follow Jesus' teachings.
• Pupil Behaviour: The behaviour of our pupils is consistently good, both in classrooms and outside, where they show care and consideration for each other.
• Catholic Character Development: The wide range of pupil leadership responsibilities provided by the school enhances the Catholic character development of our pupils.
• Engagement in Prayer and Liturgy: Pupils respond well to prayer and liturgy, which are integral to the school day, and they enjoy leading prayer and acting as good role models for younger pupils.
• Active Participation: Pupils actively engage with opportunities to develop the Catholic life and mission of the school. With Christ in our hearts we grow in love to help others.
The report also acknowledges the strong partnerships we have with parents, evidenced by the recent relaunch of the Parent-Teacher Association, Friends of St Mary's Isleworth (FOSMI). This collaboration further supports our school's mission and enhances the sense of community. While we celebrate these achievements, we are also committed to continuous improvement.
The report provides valuable recommendations, such as ensuring leaders have a clear vision for the teaching and learning of the Religious Education Directory and further embedding Catholic social teaching within the curriculum and life of the school.
We are proud of the progress we have made and are excited about the future as we continue to work together to provide the best possible education for our children.
Thank you once again for your support and for being an integral part of our school community.
FOSMI Thank you
Thank you to FOSMI for the very successful welcome event last evening. Look out for more events in the coming weeks.
Year 3 visit the Science Museum
Last Thursday, Doncaster and Ipswich classes visited the Science Museum in London. As part of our visit, we explored the Medicine Gallery in advance of our ‘Human Body’ topic.
After this, we learnt what is needed to make a rocket fly; explored if a magnet can be switched off and what the word 'aerodynamic' means. This was part of the ‘Feel the Force’ workshop which prepared for this half term’s ‘Forces’ topic.
Year 5 Roadwatch
On Tuesday 5th November, Year 5 were visited by a MET policeman and community officers to talk about road safety and the impact of speeding. The MET police officer identified drivers, who were speeding on South Street, using a laser gun. Children had the opportunity to ask the drivers about the impact and dangers that speeding has on themselves and the people around them. This was a fantastic experience and all Year 5 children are much more aware of the speed limits on local roads.
