Homework at St Mary’s

Most year groups set homework 4 times a week although this does depend on the age of the children.  You can see individual homework timetables on the year group pages under the ‘Visit the classes’ drop down on our website.  On the class pages will also find termly newsletters (telling you what the children will be studying each term) and the history (first half of term) and geography (second half of term) knowledge planners.  Half of the learning for each history or geography topic (we don’t teach them at the same time) is contained in the knowledge planners.  Children will be asked to learn the key vocabulary each half term and you can support this at home using the method explained here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9u3KxGCio8.

On the class pages you will also find advice for supporting maths at home.  The ‘Parents’ drop down on the website gives you access to pages on Maths No Problem! and the Maths Passports.  We hope you find this information useful.

We want our children to have the time to take part in clubs and activities in the afternoons and evenings after school (including those at Parishes).  We do not want the need to ‘do homework’ to get in the way of this.  From September 2020 all schools will need to teach the benefits of physical exercise, time outdoors, community participation, voluntary and service-based activity, the importance of rest, time spent with friends and family and the benefits of hobbies and interests.

This has always been our approach which you can read more about by clicking on the policy on this page.
